009 - Information

The Information Age. Data, what does it all mean? If we look so closely we lose the whole picture, and if we look at the whole picture we lose sight of the individual pieces. Is it all just a puzzle? If it is a puzzle why take it all apart to look at the single pieces? But what if all the completed puzzles all are themselves puzzle pieces for a larger puzzle?

Corn, agriculture, for example, when we zoom so far in to just see one pixel we lose the context of the corn. When we look at just one stalk we do not see the entire field. When we look at the field we do not see the surrounding fields. When we look at Earth we do not see the individual fields, and certainly not the stalks, and never the single kernel. Information as Maize.

If each pixel carries so much information, and each video capture carries so many pixels, how on Earth could all the information be captured, stored and conveyed in any way to tell the entire story of Earth? Lots and lots of content creation is how. Every gust of wind creates sounds, spreads seed, shapes the Earth. This is the story that will need to be captured for present and future generations to understand the human condition.
